Fields allow clients to enter information directly into a contract. Use them to collect details you did not have when preparing the contract or to request a client’s initials beside an important section.
Note: To automatically add existing client information to a contract, such as their name or email address, use variables instead.

How contract fields work
Contract fields are spaces that clients can complete or update before signing. You can use fields to collect information such as:
- A location or other event detail
- Information that was unavailable when you prepared the contract
- A client’s initials to acknowledge an important section
You can leave a field blank for the client to complete or add a default value that the client can update.
Adding fields to a contract
Add fields while editing a draft contract:
- In the contract editor, click where you want the field to appear.
- Select Insert Field.
- Configure the field as needed:
- Field name: Add a label that tells the client what to enter, such as “Client Address” or “Initials.”
- Field value: Enter an optional default answer. The client can replace this value when completing the contract.
Note: Any field left blank must be completed by the client before they can sign the contract. A field with a value is already considered complete, but the client can still edit it.
Client experience
When a client opens the contract, they can enter information into blank fields and update any default field values you added. Clients must complete every blank field before they can sign the contract.
