Variables are dynamic fields that automatically populate specific details into your contract. They are a great way to easily auto-fill a contract with pre-existing contact information, such as your client’s name, email, phone, or address.
Note: Looking for a way to allow clients to modify parts of their contract? Check out fields instead of variables!

Adding Variables to your Contract Template
The best way to add a variable is to the content of a contract template. This ensures that no matter how many different clients you need to create contracts for, the correct client’s information will appear when you apply the template to their contract.
Adding pre-determined variables to the content of your contract takes only two clicks. When editing a contract template (or any client’s contract), click on Variables and then select the applicable variable. That’s it!
Creating Custom Variables
If there is unique information that will need to be added to each contract depending on the specific client, you can accommodate this by creating a custom variable in your contract template.
To do this, simply click Variables > Custom Variable and optionally label it. When you apply your template containing a custom variable to a client’s contract, you will be prompted to fill out the variable before you can send it out to that specific client.
Tip: Don’t see a custom variable option in your dropdown menu? You are likely editing a contract for a specific client. Switch to a contract template to create custom variables.
What will the client see?
Because variables are filled out before being sent to them, your clients will not be able to modify existing variables themselves. They will simply be shown as underlined text within the content of their contract.
