Using Coupons to offer Store Discounts

Offer your clients discounts on orders placed in your galleries’ store by creating coupons. This can be an effective way to help drive and boost your sales! This article will cover how to create a coupons, as well as address common questions about the set-up and redemption process.

To create a coupon from your Store Dashboard:

  1. Go to Coupons and click + Add Coupon.
  2. Name the coupon and create a unique coupon code.
  3. Determine the discount type and discount amount.
  4. Configure the coupon options as needed, and click Save to create it.

Once created, you can hover over the coupon code to copy and share the discount code anywhere you’d like!

 

Discount Types

There are four types of coupons that you can create in the Store which allow you to offer discounts in different ways:

  • Percent Off: Offer a percentage off the order total or specific items.
  • Amount Off: Offer a fixed dollar amount off the order total or specific items.
  • Free Giveaway (Buy X get Y): Give away specific items for free in your client's cart.
  • Free Shipping: Give your client the cheapest shipping method for free.

Any discount from a coupon will come out of the order’s profit. When an order is submitted, the lab’s cost of goods (e.g. the printing and shipping fees) is deducted from the order total that your client pays at checkout. Once the discount is applied, any remaining amount is your profit and sent to you directly.

Note: If a coupon makes the order total less than the order’s cost of goods (e.g. the lab’s printing and shipping costs), any remaining balance is charged to the credit card on file. The balance owed is charged immediately to avoid any delays and ensure your client gets their order as soon as possible. You can learn more about this here.

 

Coupon Options

The Options section during the creation process allows you to set up specific redemption conditions for your coupon:

  • Applies to: You can choose whether the coupon can be used for every price sheet across all your collections or just a specific price sheet.
  • Minimum Order Amount: Determine whether the coupon can only be used when the order meets a minimum purchase amount (before any taxes and shipping).
  • Limit Total Uses: Restrict how many times a coupon can be used on an overall or per-collection basis.
  • Active Dates: Schedule a start date and optional end date for the coupon to be valid for. By default, coupons are active immediately upon creation.
  • Add Free Shipping (Available for Percent Off and Amount Off coupons): Provide free shipping in addition to the discount set for the coupon. This discount applies to the lowest cost shipping method at checkout based on the items in added to the cart.
  • If order contains (Available for Free Giveaway coupons): Require the order to include a specific product to receive another specific product for free (i.e. Buy one, get one free).
  • Coupon Banner: Display a custom message promoting your discount on any applicable collections. Learn about banners here.

Redeeming Coupons

A single coupon can be applied to an order during checkout. While viewing the order summary, clients can click Apply Coupon to enter their code. Once applied, the coupon will automatically lower the order total for the discount being offered.

Tip: You can confirm coupons work as intended by testing them in this way. While viewing the collection as a client would, add relevant items to the cart and apply your coupon in the checkout to confirm that it is live.

You can create coupons to offer discounts in several different ways. We’ve compiled a few quick-start guides for some common examples to help you get your discounts set up smoothly. You can use these to build out your coupon and adjust further as required.

15% off a minimum order of $150

  • Discount Type: Percent Off
  • Discount Amount: 15
  • Minimum Order Amount: 150

Buy one 4x6” print get one 4x6” print free (BOGO)

  • Discount Type: Free Giveaway
  • Shopper gets a free: Select a specific price sheet, then choose the 4x6” print and its variations, and set the quantity to 1
  • If an order contains: “Specific products” and set the quantity to 1

$10 off on each 8x10” mounted prints

  • Discount Type: Amount Off
  • Discount Amount: 10
  • Applies to: Select a specific price sheet
    • Choose the 8x10” mounted prints and its variations
    • Discount Applies to: Choose “Each item individually”

  • Discount Type: Free Giveaway
  • Shopper gets a free : Select your price sheet, click + Add Product, choose a Single Photo Download product, and set the quantity to 5
  • Limit Total Uses: 1 Overall

Note: Digital download products need to be manually added to your price sheet. If you have not done so, follow this guide first. You can also explore this alternative option if you prefer your client to redeem their free downloads through the collection instead of the store.
