Digital download products let you sell photos directly through your Pixieset Store. After an order is processed, Pixieset automatically sends your client a secure link to download the purchased files.

How digital download orders work

Pixieset automatically fulfills digital download orders, so you do not need to prepare or send the files yourself.

• The client purchases digital downloads from their collection’s store and immediately receives an order confirmation email.
• A separate email provides their download link. You also receive a copy of this email.
• The link opens a webpage where the client can download a ZIP file containing their photos. Larger orders may be divided into multiple .zip files.
• For security, the link expires after 7 days. You can resend the purchased files at any time.

Tip: If you want to offer digital downloads for sale only, turn off the free download option in the collection’s settings.

Setting up digital download products

Note: New price sheets automatically include digital download products that you can customize. If you’re using an older price sheet, follow the steps below to add them.

To add a digital download product:

1. From Store > Products, select a price sheet.
2. Click + Add Product, then select Digital Download.
3. Configure the product, such as the download type and size, name, price, and description, then Save.
4. Assign the price sheet to each collection where you want to sell the product.

Adding a digital image license

A digital image license explains how clients may use photos purchased from your store. Clients can view the license through a link at checkout. By placing an order, they agree to its terms.

Important: Pixieset does not provide warranties for digital image licenses and is not responsible for enforcing license agreements or resolving disputes related to them. For more information, see Adding terms of sale or digital image license.

To add a digital image license:

1. Go to Store > Settings.
2. Under Digital Image License, enter your license terms.
3. Click Save.

Adding taxes for digital download orders

Depending on your location and tax requirements, you may need to collect tax on digital download purchases. How tax is applied depends on whether your store uses an automatic tax rate or a manual tax rate:

• Automatic tax: TaxJar determines whether tax applies to digital downloads based on your jurisdiction and local tax requirements.
• Manual tax: You can choose whether each tax rule applies to digital download products. When creating or editing a tax rule, select or clear Apply Tax on Digital Downloads to control whether the rule applies to digital download purchases.

Resending a digital download order

For security, the download link for purchased files expires after 7 days. You can resend the digital download order if the original link has expired, or your client needs another copy of the files.

To resend a digital download order:

1. Go to Store > Orders.
2. Locate the order and click View.
3. In the top right, click Resend Download.

Pixieset generates a new download link and emails it to the address the client provided at checkout. Generating the link may take some time, depending on the size of the order.

Can I offer a specific number of digital downloads for free?

You can offer clients a limited number of free digital downloads in either of these ways:

• Through a collection: Set the number of photos clients can download directly from their gallery without placing a Store order.
• Through your Store: Create a free giveaway coupon that clients can redeem at checkout. Clients can purchase additional digital downloads separately.

Can I sell packages that include digital downloads?

You can create packages containing digital downloads, print products, or both. Before adding a digital download to a package, create the digital download product in the applicable price sheet.

Can I sell only digital downloads in my store?

You can create a price sheet that contains digital downloads without any print products. Create an empty self fulfillment price sheet and add your digital download products, or hide the print products on an existing price sheet.

Can I edit photos after a client purchases them?

When Order Delay is enabled, you can hold an order before it is processed. During the delay, you can review the order and replace image files with edited versions.

Will downloaded photos include watermarks?

Whether downloaded photos include watermarks depends on the selected resolution and your watermark settings:

• High-resolution downloads: Pixieset watermarks are not applied to Original or 3600px downloads.
• Web-size downloads: You can choose whether to include your watermark on 640px, 1024px, or 2048px downloads.
